Treatment
Occupational therapy (OT) is an allied health profession that uses assessment and intervention to assist individuals to improve their functioning after a disease, disorder or injury, such as a concussion. TheĀ focus of OT is to provide the client with strategies and tools to manage persistent symptoms, to assist them in structuring their day effectively, and to improve their participation in daily meaningful activities (school, work, self-care, community activities, hobbies). The ultimate goal of OT is for individuals to return to their pre-injury meaningful activities and life roles.
Practicing in a patient centred manner is key for occupational therapists. This emphasizes equality, sharing and partnership between the therapist and client. Using this approach, rehabilitation is structured around specific goals and functions that are pertinent to meaningful daily activities.
